PACS guide

Intelerad PACS, explained.

Intelerad Medical Systems makes medical imaging software: a PACS called IntelePACS, the InteleViewer diagnostic viewer, the InteleOne reading workflow, a vendor-neutral archive and image-sharing tools. Since March 2026 it has been part of GE HealthCare. This guide sets out what each product is, using Intelerad’s and GE HealthCare’s own pages, so you can follow the names when they come up in an RFP, a radiologist job ad or an IT meeting. TeleRads does not sell or resell Intelerad products.

What is Intelerad?

The short answer

Intelerad is a medical imaging software company, founded in Montreal and, since March 18, 2026, owned by GE HealthCare. Its best-known products are IntelePACS (the PACS), InteleViewer (the diagnostic viewer radiologists read on) and InteleOne (a unified worklist, viewer and dictation workflow).

  • 1,500+global clients, per Intelerad’s About page
  • 230Mexams per year, per Intelerad
  • 2026GE HealthCare completed its acquisition, March 18

Intelerad’s About page traces the company to four graduates working in the medical imaging department of McGill University Health Center in Montreal in the 1990s; the 2020 announcement of its sale to the investor Hg gives the founding year as 1999 and its headquarters then as Montreal (Intelerad, January 2020). Today the About page lists offices in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and India, and states “1,500+” global clients, “230M” exams per year and “8 Billion” images under management (checked October 19, 2026; Intelerad’s own press releases have used other totals at other dates).

On March 18, 2026, GE HealthCare announced that it had completed the acquisition of Intelerad, describing it as “a leading medical imaging software provider” with enterprise imaging customers in the US, Canada, the UK and Oceania, and saying Intelerad will operate as part of GE HealthCare’s Imaging business. Intelerad’s website now carries the line “Intelerad is now a GE HealthCare company.”

Intelerad products, in plain English

IntelePACS
The PACS: the system that stores, manages and distributes medical images. Intelerad describes it as a way to “access medical images and patient data at any time, anywhere” (product list). New to the term? Start with what is PACS.
InteleViewer
The diagnostic viewer radiologists read on. Intelerad calls it “an advanced visualization system” and lists hanging protocols, multi-planar reconstructions, maximum intensity projections, volume rendering, automatic loading of priors, web-based access for remote reading and lossless image streaming (InteleViewer page).
InteleOne
A reading workflow that puts “a unified worklist, viewer, and dictation system” in front of radiologists “regardless of where the images come from”. The page lists integration with HIS, RIS, EHR, PACS, VNA and dictation systems, automated case distribution and workload balancing, and peer review support (InteleOne page).
InteleOrchestrator
Listed by Intelerad as a way to “view the right study at the right time”: worklist and study routing for reading groups.
Enterprise Viewer
Image access for physicians outside radiology, from “their desktop or mobile device”.
InteleShare and InteleShare VNA
InteleShare sends and receives imaging between organizations; InteleShare VNA is Intelerad’s vendor-neutral archive, described as “a flexible, scalable, vendor-neutral and feature-rich archive”.
InteleArchive
Backup, recovery and long-term archiving of image data.
InteleHeart
Cardiology workflow and ECG management, separate from radiology.

Product names and descriptions are quoted from Intelerad’s product list and product pages, checked October 19, 2026. Product lines change after acquisitions, so confirm current names with the vendor.

How Intelerad grew: key acquisitions

  1. 01

    2018 · Clario

A Seattle zero-footprint worklist company (Intelerad release).

  2. 02

    2020 · Hg investment

Investor Hg agreed to acquire Intelerad from Novacap in January 2020 (Intelerad release).

  3. 03

GE HealthCare completed its acquisition of Intelerad on March 18, 2026 (GE HealthCare release).

Intelerad and the cloud

Intelerad lists a Cloud Suite among its product suites. In November 2025 it announced an expanded alliance with Amazon Web Services, adopting AWS HealthImaging as a core part of its imaging data infrastructure (Intelerad release). Intelerad has announced Best in KLAS awards for its PACS in the UK and Ireland, most recently in February 2026 for a third consecutive year (Intelerad release); that award is for the UK and Ireland market, not the US.

For a hospital, cloud versus on-premises is less about the vendor and more about who runs the servers, how images get back during a network outage, and how fast large studies load for remote readers. Our PACS vendors comparison lists the questions to ask any vendor.

Intelerad, PowerScribe and InteleViewer: what is what?

Three names often get blurred together in job ads and RFPs:

  • InteleViewer is Intelerad’s image viewer: where the radiologist looks at the images.
  • IntelePACS is Intelerad’s PACS: where the images are stored and managed.
  • PowerScribe is speech-recognition reporting software from Nuance, now part of Microsoft, not an Intelerad product (Nuance page). Many radiologists use a viewer from one company and dictate in software from another.
  • A RIS handles orders, scheduling and billing; see RIS vs PACS.

The pieces talk to each other through two standards, DICOM for images and HL7 for orders and reports. Our guide to DICOM and HL7 in radiology explains how.

What this means if you buy teleradiology

A hospital does not need to run the same PACS as its teleradiology group. The connection is standards-based: orders flow by HL7, images by DICOM, and signed reports come back into the hospital’s system. What matters is that the teleradiology group can receive your studies quickly, show the radiologist your priors, and return reports in your format.

Orders come to us by HL7 and images by secure routing to our PACS. Signed reports go back into your system. We read on our PACS, so there is nothing for your staff to install or run. We sign a HIPAA Business Associate Agreement (BAA) with every hospital, and our technology runs on SOC 2-compliant platforms. Every TeleRads report is a signed final; we read finals only, never preliminaries.

Questions

What is Intelerad?

Intelerad Medical Systems is a medical imaging software company, founded in Montreal, that makes the IntelePACS PACS, the InteleViewer diagnostic viewer, the InteleOne reading workflow and image archiving and sharing products. GE HealthCare completed its acquisition of Intelerad on March 18, 2026.

Who owns Intelerad?

GE HealthCare. It announced on March 18, 2026 that it had completed the acquisition, and Intelerad operates as part of GE HealthCare’s Imaging business. Before that, the investor Hg acquired Intelerad in 2020.

What is InteleViewer?

InteleViewer is Intelerad’s diagnostic image viewer. Intelerad describes it as an advanced visualization system with hanging protocols, multi-planar reconstruction, maximum intensity projection, volume rendering, automatic priors and web-based access for remote reading.

What is the difference between IntelePACS and InteleViewer?

IntelePACS is the PACS that stores, manages and distributes images. InteleViewer is the viewer a radiologist uses to read them. A radiologist opens studies from the PACS in the viewer.

What is InteleOne?

InteleOne is Intelerad’s reading workflow, which Intelerad describes as a unified worklist, viewer and dictation system that works regardless of where the images come from, with integration to HIS, RIS, EHR, PACS, VNA and dictation systems.

Is PowerScribe made by Intelerad?

No. PowerScribe is speech-recognition reporting software from Nuance, which is part of Microsoft. Radiologists often dictate in PowerScribe while viewing images in a viewer from another company.

Does a hospital need Intelerad to use teleradiology?

No. Teleradiology connects through standards: orders by HL7, images by DICOM, reports back by HL7. With TeleRads, images route securely to our PACS and signed reports go back into your system, with nothing for your staff to install.
